Anyone who has holidays booked with the firm has been given further advice
A Wirral travel firm has ceased trading as it becomes the latest in a series of firms to shut their doors. Usher Travel Worldchoice, an independent firm based in Wallasey closed on October 16, 2025.
The agency published a statement on its Facebook page to share the news of its closure. In a lengthy post, director Gavin Morton said: “It is with the great sadness that I must share this very difficult news with you. After trading as an independent travel agent on Wirral for nearly 64 years, Usher Travel Service Ltd has ceased trading.”
Gavin wrote: “For me, personally, after 35 years with the business, this is quite literally one of the most heartbreaking moments of my life.
“The loyal clients, many of whom have become friends and helped create the relaxing and fun atmosphere in the office will be something the team will miss in our day to day lives. Covid took much away from us and whilst we came through the other side, three years of heavy travel restrictions and in many cases, a loss of client confidence in travel, left a financial burden that was becoming more and more difficult to manage.”
Explaining what current clients should do, Usher Travel Worldchoice says: “Any clients with forthcoming travel, you will be contacted very shortly for ticket arrangements. Moving forward with bookings further ahead, you will be contacted directly regarding the procedure of moving your booking from our agency to the Tour Operator.
“We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused, but rest assured that we will be assisting ABTA and Worldchoice in the smooth transition of booking ownership. If you require any further assistance please contact ABTA Ltd on claimsrequest@abta.co.uk or 0203 758 8730.”
Another employee for the firm posted a message, alongside Gavin. Barry wrote: “I’d just like to say a brief few words as a thank you to all the kind people who have mentioned me in their thoughts.
“It’s been an absolute privilege to deal with you for my 20 years at Usher Travel and my customers and colleagues have been there for me through life’s many phases both happy and sad.”
ABTA, a trade association for UK travel agents and the wider travel industry, has responded to the closure of the firm.
On its website, a statement said: “We are sorry to inform you that Usher Travel Service Ltd trading as Usher Travel Worldchoice ceased trading on October 16 2025 and we are now treating this company as a financial failure.”
To ensure your holiday can continue as planned, you will need to contact your tour operator or other principal travel business with whom you have a contract and ask to speak to the credit control department.
They should confirm that your booking will continue as normal and they will now be your direct point of contact.
ABTA advised that If you booked a flight-only with Usher Travel Service Ltd and were issued with a ticket or e-ticket, you will need to contact the airline, but your tickets should be valid for travel.
A number of travel agents have closed so far this year. Balkan Holidays Ltd (April 2025), Jetline Travel (March 2025), and Great Little Escapes LLP (June 2025) have all shut their doors.
